Printed Circuit Boards with Aluminum Core or Carrier - LeitOn-Alu

If you are dealing with circuits which generate high heat, you will be aware of the challenges:

How can I divert this heat away from the hot spots?

This topic is becoming increasingly relevant for high performance LED-technology. But targeted heat management may also pay off with conventional transistors in the long-run in order to increase reliability.

This is our lauching point for providing you with the right solotions.
Pressing aluminum boards on PCBs has several advantages

Cost Savings
Life cycle and reliability substantially increase.

Space Saving
Extensive external cooling mechanisms are simply integrated.

Performance Enhancement
Targeted heat management allows for a greater power spectrum of the application.

Design Advantages
Layout specifications only change in few areas.

Currently, we offer individual solutions for 1- to 2-layer circuit boards pressed aluminum core or on an aluminum carrier. The latter one allows you to go up to 6 layers. We would be delighted to help you identify a suitable solution.

An overview of our product range:

1- to 6 layer Printed Circuit Board with aluminum carrier between 0,5 - 2,4 mm (The aluminium is on one side of the PCB = carrier). Example: layer stack-up with aluminium carrier.

2-sided circuit board with aluminum core between 0,5 - 2,0 mm (The aluminium is in the centre of the PCB = core). Example: layer stack-up with aluminium core.

1 layer to 6layer aluminium PCBs with carrier and 2layer Aluminium-Core PCBs can be through hole plated!

Compared to conventional epoxide resin cores with FR4 materials, aluminum´s heat conductor coefficent is about 30 times higher. Since the price for silver, which has the highest possible heat conductor coefficient, is about 100 times higher, strengthening the copper PCB track is the only economic alternative to an aluminum core. This method especially finds application in the area of high current circuits.

LeitOn-ALU - Heat mangement with aluminum printed circuit boards

Heat discharge with help of aluminum core enables higher assembly density, improved run-time, and greater reliability in LED technology and high performance transistor areas. Many questions in this new and scarcely researched area deal with design, calcualation, as well as assembly with aluminum core or bearings. Currently 2layer PCBs with aluminum core are available. For aluminum carrier, we provide 1 to 6 layer Printed Circuit Boards. Below we provide some pointers for development, CAD and mounting of aluminum pressed circuit boards.
  1. Heat Discharge Calcuation
  2. Design rules for Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) with aluminum core or carrier
  3. Soldering Printed Circuit Boards - PCBs with aluminum core or carriers
