LeitOn High-Tg

Besides atmospheric influence, heat is another source of strain for Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs). Extreme heat can lead to delamination, z-axis expansion and material softening in the PCB. This can be devastating.

Hence it is very important to specify the operating range at the beginning, to find a suitable base material for continuous operation in extreme heat.

High-Tg PCB materials have the following characteristics:
  • extremely enduring against delamination
  • little z-axis expansion
  • very high Tg value
  • chemical resistant strength
  • high temperature resistance

The Tg indicates the temperature at which the PCB base material starts yielding. It is important to avoid any yielding of PCB base materials, so the Tg is not an indicator for the operating temperature of the PCB. The Tg temperature can only be sustained for a very short time.

PCB base materials with the highest available Tg values allow peak temperatures of up to 260°C (Tg260) at a maximum operating temperature of around 200°C.

LeitOn offers you the following base High-Tg PCB materials:

Material Supplier Tg Download data sheet
IS400 Isola ca. 150°C IS 400.pdf
IS410 Isola 170° - 180°C IS 410.pdf

For comparison: standard FR4 PCB base material has a Tg of only 135°C and a maximum operating temperature of around 110°C.
