  3. Solder Mask
  4. Surface Finish
  5. Silk Print
    1. Why do positioning prints on copper pads have to be avoided?

      Rating:

    2. Why are silk prints required to have a minimum line thickness of 0.18 mm to 0.20 mm?

      Rating:

When applying positioning tags, the screen printing method is used. The screen consists of fine-meshed structures with approximately 100 to 120 fibres per inch (4 to 5 fibres per mm). The areas which are not required to be printed are covered with a film mask while the printing is applied onto the desired surface. The number of fibres and the distances in between theoretically permits a smallest line thickness of 0.1 mm.

To carry out a flawless printing a line thickness of 0.18 mm to 0.20 mm is recommended though. Finer screens prove to be technically inefficient due to their mechanical sensitivity and the problems occuring when applying the color through such fine meshes.
